As of June 1, the mask requirement has been dropped in all commerce, public transportation, and disability services. In addition, the current amendment to the 2nd Covid-19 Basic Measures Ordinance aligned the “green passport” regulations with the recommendations of the National Immunization Panel.
Mask requirement
The requirement to wear a mask is limited to “vulnerable settings”: hospitals, spas, and other places where health and care services are provided (doctors’ offices, etc.), as well as retirement and nursing homes.
In public transportation, in all commerce, and facilities for the disabled, the federal government waives the mask requirement. Vienna continues to make use of the possibility of stricter regulation. In the federal capital, an FFP2 mask must continue to be worn in all means of mass transportation and closed stations, train stations, and platforms. Mask wearing is also mandatory in pharmacies in Vienna.
Vaccination certificates
Concerning the “Green Passport,” according to the Ministry of Health, “the new technical recommendations of the National Vaccination Panel have been incorporated into the ordinance.” A basic immunization now requires a uniform three stitches. Previously, a recovery before the first vaccination was considered a separate “immunological event.” Unchanged, recovery continues to be valid for six months, but it no longer replaces a vaccination.
The minimum intervals between vaccinations continue to be medically recommended. However, these are no longer a prerequisite for issuing a vaccination certificate. This regulation considers the rare exceptions in which the minimum interval was fallen short of – usually slightly.
There is a general transition period for the “green passport” changes until August 23. Until then, valid and already issued vaccination certificates remain valid. Over the summer, vaccination certificates will be reissued based on the changes. The new certificates can be accessed via gesundheit.gv.at or printed out from pharmacies, doctors, etc.
The new exception for the 3-G rule
In the case of the 3-G rule, the proof is now also not required for those persons who would not be subject to mandatory vaccination due to a lack of immune response to vaccination. As confirmation, the one that one has already received for a mandatory vaccination exemption is sufficient. There is also an exception in the case of pregnancy and danger to health by vaccination.
Further suspended nationwide is the coronavirus vaccination obligation. Violations of the duty should have been punished from mid-March, but the suspension, initially until June 1 on the recommendation of the expert commission, was extended for three months.
